Gov. Yusuf takes swift action, sacks Ganduje’s appointees, revokes asset sales

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has taken decisive action by dismissing government officials appointed by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

In his inaugural speech, the new governor announced the immediate termination of all political appointees heading government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) as well as companies.

Additionally, Governor Yusuf dissolved all boards of MDAs, companies, and institutions of higher learning with immediate effect.

He further instructed the state’s security agencies to assume control over all public properties that were sold by the previous administration.

The governor emphasized that these properties, which include lands surrounding schools, religious and cultural sites, hospitals and clinics, graveyards and green areas, as well as other assets belonging to Kano State, were illicitly sold to individuals connected to his predecessor’s cronies and agents.

To address these issues, Governor Yusuf announced the formation of a Judicial Commission of Inquiry. This commission will investigate the perpetrators involved in the improper sale of public assets and those who aided and abetted them. The governor intends to ensure that justice is served.

Governor Yusuf stated that his forthcoming actions are aimed at resetting the state, restoring its honour, dignity, respect, and responsibility. Moreover, he aims to place Kano State on a path of progress, prosperity, and development.

Furthermore, the governor unveiled plans to establish a Taskforce on Refuse Disposal, Evacuation of Drainages, and Streets Cleaning, known as “Operation Nazafa.” This taskforce will consist of various stakeholder groups, which will be revealed at a later date.

The governor plans to launch a statewide campaign, involving self-help groups, to drive the operation. Within the next few weeks, all dumps will be cleared, streets will be cleaned, and drainages will be desilted. A sustainable system for maintaining cleanliness and managing waste disposal will be implemented.

Governor Yusuf also made it mandatory for all vehicles operating within the state to have dustbins starting from June 1.

Additionally, all businesses, including shops and stalls, must have dustbins for proper collection and disposal of waste.
