Justice For Victims: Gov. Abba Yusuf to revisit murder charges against Rep. Doguwa

The governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has promised to reopen the murder case against Alhassan Doguwa, the member representing Tudunwada/Doguwa Federal Constituency.
Honourable Doguwa was initially arraigned before a Senior Magistrate on March 1 on charges of murder. He was subsequently granted bail in the amount of N500 million by a Federal High Court in Kano on March 6.
In a surprising turn of events, the Ganduje administration, on May 22, cleared the lawmaker of any complicity in the murder, stating that he had no case to answer.
However, the newly sworn-in governor of the state stated in his inaugural address on Monday that he would ensure the case is pursued to its logical conclusion.

“The notorious case of Alhassan Ado Doguwa, who is alleged to have sponsored the maiming and murder of over 15 innocent individuals in Tudun Wada Local Government, will be thoroughly investigated,” the governor declared.
He also pledged to establish a judicial commission of inquiry to investigate political thuggery in the state and hold the perpetrators accountable.
“The numerous victims of the Ganduje campaign of violence, which employed drug-intoxicated thugs, will not be ignored. To prevent future occurrences, a judicial commission of inquiry will be established to ensure that both the perpetrators and their sponsors face justice. The families of the victims of political thuggery also deserve justice,” the governor asserted.
“We cannot forget the case of one of our respected members and supporters, Hon Dadiyata, who was abducted in broad daylight by unknown assailants and has been missing for five years. The Kano State Government will collaborate with the relevant security agencies in the country to investigate the case of Dadiyata, rescue him, and bring his assailants to justice,” he added.
Addressing the issue of phone snatching and other street crimes, the governor announced the creation of a Special Joint Task Force dedicated to preventing such crimes.
“Starting with security, we are fully aware of the persistent cases of armed robbery, particularly phone snatching, kidnapping, cattle rustling, and other violent crimes plaguing our towns and cities. We will confront and eradicate this menace from our state once and for all.
“On behalf of the government and the people of our state, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of all the victims of these unacceptable crimes. We acknowledge that one of the major contributing factors to these criminal activities is the consumption of illicit drugs. Therefore, I am pleased to announce the establishment of a Special Joint Task Force, comprising teams of law enforcement agencies and mobile courts, which will work together to rid our streets of these criminals and ensure swift justice is served.
“The Kano State Reformatory Institute in Kiru will also be reopened at the earliest opportunity to facilitate the rehabilitation of drug addicts,” the governor concluded.
