New Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf rejects predecessor’s official chair (Video)

The new Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, made a strong statement by refusing to sit on the official chair previously used by his predecessor, Abdullahi Ganduje.
In a video circulating online, he can be seen pushing aside the chair and opting to use another during a recent meeting.
This act follows his promise to conduct an investigation into the debt accumulated by Ganduje’s administration.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has pledged to thoroughly examine the N241 billion inherited from the previous administration.
Expressing his dissatisfaction, Yusuf remarked that the handover notes provided by Ganduje, through the outgoing Secretary to the State Government, were inadequate and lacking in detail.

Furthermore, Yusuf criticized Ganduje for deviating from established democratic practices by leaving the state and failing to personally hand over the reins of government to him.
The Governor stated, “The handover notes are insufficient for us, they provide only a scanty overview. The transition committee report was also lacking in substance.”
“As representatives of the state, we are obligated to accept what has been given to us. We will carefully assess the information provided. If we find satisfaction, appropriate action will be taken. Conversely, if we are dissatisfied, we will take the necessary steps to address the issue,” added Yusuf.
Expressing his dismay, the Governor highlighted the daunting challenge of inheriting a debt profile of over N241 billion.
He raised concerns about the state’s ability to secure the necessary funds, considering the unsatisfactory Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and the questionable practices surrounding the Kano Internal Revenue Service.
Yusuf also questioned the exorbitant use of consultants, referring to them as mere conduits for siphoning resources from the people of Kano State.
In his closing remarks, the Governor emphasized his commitment to honest governance, reassuring the people that his administration is not motivated by personal gain or land acquisition.
He affirmed, “We are here to work, and with the grace of Allah, we will accomplish our goals within the next four years.”
