Over 17,000 paramilitary officers receive promotions as President Buhari’s farewell gesture

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board has granted promotions to a total of 17,331 officers across various paramilitary agencies under the Ministry of Interior.

This announcement was made through a statement on Sunday by Ja’afaru Ahmed, the Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB).

Ahmed clarified that these promotions were part of the 2022 Promotion Exercise.

The detailed breakdown reveals that out of the 17,331 officers who were promoted, 8,365 belong to the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), 3,472 are from the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), 327 individuals represent the Federal Fire Service (FFS), and the remaining 5,167 officers serve in the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

The statement further highlighted that the Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Board, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, regarded these promotions as a farewell gift from the outgoing administration.

Aregbesola emphasized that the decision to approve these promotions was based on the officers’ merit and performance.

Congratulating the newly promoted officers, Aregbesola urged them to consider their advancements as a call to serve the Ministry of Interior, the Board, and their respective services.

He also encouraged them to redouble their efforts in fulfilling the mandates and visions of their organizations, as well as safeguarding the internal security of the nation.
