Panic ensues as explosion rocks Keffi, claiming 2 lives
There is panic in Keffi, the headquarters of Keffi local government area of Nasarawa State, following an explosion in the wee hours of Sunday.
The incident, suspected to be a bomb blast, resulted in the tragic death of two individuals.
The explosion occurred opposite the General Hospital along Nasarawa road in Keffi on Sunday morning.
According to sources, the suspected bomb detonated within a residential apartment in the area, which had been rented by two occupants, causing their untimely demise.
The occupants, who were seldom present, had returned from a journey on Saturday afternoon.
Eyewitnesses revealed that several hours after their arrival, the building was surrounded by operatives of the Department of State Security Service (DSS).
It is believed that upon seeing the security personnel, the victims may have detonated explosive vests or a grenade.
The remains of the victims exhibited severe injuries, with their trunks and arms severed as a result of the explosion.
Many residents residing close to the area fled in fear when the incident occurred.
Despite initial skepticism about the incident, a growing number of people flocked to the scene early in the morning, as the heavy presence of security operatives became apparent.
The bodies of the victims have been promptly evacuated from the scene to an undisclosed hospital in the area.
Furthermore, the security operatives have cordoned off the scene of the incident after conducting an initial search for evidence.
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, expressed his unavailability to provide immediate information. However, he assured that he would reach out when he is free.
