Pregnant woman arrested for brutally cutting 15-year-old maid in Lagos

Police in Lagos State have arrested a 30-year-old woman, Mrs. Eucharia Ndigwe, who used a knife to inflict deep cuts on her 15-year-old maid for failing to wash a bag.

The heavily pregnant lady was apprehended on Saturday and has since been transferred to the Gender Unit of the police command for further investigation.

Additionally, the unit is working in conjunction with the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency to ensure she receives the necessary medical attention.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police spokesperson in the state, informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday that the maid has been hospitalized at the police medical facility in Ikeja.

“The survivor is currently receiving adequate medical care at the police medical facility in Ikeja. The Lagos police command is committed to combating domestic, sexual, and gender-based violence throughout the state,” stated Hundeyin.

On Sunday, the Commissioner for Women Affairs in Anambra, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, visited the survivor at the hospital, accompanied by CSP Grace Agboola, the Officer-in-Charge of the police Gender Unit handling the case.

Expressing her gratitude, the commissioner commended the Lagos State Police Command, the state government, and the Inspector-General of Police for their efforts in rescuing the maid.

She further mentioned that the Anambra State government, the survivor’s home state, is prepared to provide her with shelter and a meaningful life, including access to education.

The commissioner emphasized her desire for Eucharia, the alleged perpetrator, to be prosecuted.
