Renown Yoruba Nollywood actor Murphy Afolabi dies at 49

Renown Yoruba Nollywood actor, Murphy Afolabi, has sadly passed away at the age of 49.

He collapsed in his bathroom at his residence in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State on Sunday morning.

Filmmaker and producer Sodiq Adebayo, who had worked closely with Afolabi, revealed in an interview with Channels Television that the talented actor had been battling an illness for some time.

He had been discharged from the hospital just two days ago.

Sodiq, the son of veteran Nollywood actor Adebayo Salami, directed several of Afolabi’s films, including “Osumare” and “Omo Mushin.”

Born on May 5, 1974, Afolabi had recently celebrated his 49th birthday, making his untimely passing even more tragic.

The actor had distinguished himself by skillfully employing rich Yoruba proverbs and preserving indigenous sayings in his performances.

His captivating acting, infused with deep and enchanting cultural expressions, endeared him to millions.

Afolabi was a true custodian of Yoruba traditions, morals, and folklores.

The news of Afolabi’s death has shocked his fans and colleagues, who have taken to social media to pay their heartfelt tributes.
