Gov. Umaru Bago initiates urban renewal project in Minna

Niger State Governor, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Umaru Bago, has reiterated his commitment to implementing urban renewal plans in all major cities within the state.

This statement was conveyed in a press release by Bologi Ibrahim, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Niger State.

During a recent inspection, Governor Umaru Bago toured various strategic locations within Minna, the state capital, accompanied by contractors to assess areas earmarked for upcoming projects.

The governor emphasized the need to revitalize these urban areas, citing the substandard living conditions endured by the residents over the years.

Governor Umaru Bago expressed confidence that the residents would welcome the proposed development projects, even if it meant sacrificing their properties, as long as they were adequately compensated.

He stated, “We aspire to initiate urban renewal initiatives in all major cities within the state. Our objective is to construct bridges, underpasses, widen roads, create new layouts, and establish bypasses to foster a thriving business environment.”

He further remarked, “The residents have endured squalor for far too long. If their houses are demolished, as long as they receive fair compensation, they will be content.”

Addressing concerns about the project’s funding, the governor explained, “When it comes to obtaining loans for infrastructure development, the people will not object, as the investments will pay for themselves.”

Governor Umaru Bago disclosed that the project was a comprehensive package, with funding already secured, allowing for immediate implementation.

The areas inspected included Obasanjo Complex, Mobil Roundabout, Tunga Roundabout, City Gate Roundabout, Tugan Goro, Chanchaga Bridge, Barkin Sale-Morris Bridge, Kpakungu, and Old Secretariat Roundabout, among others.
