The total number of accredited voters for the election was 359, as one member-elect from Taraba sadly passed away before the voting took place.

Abbas, a former university lecturer who received the endorsement of the ruling APC, was nominated by the immediate past Majority Leader of the House, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa (APC, Kano), and seconded by Nnaji Nnolim (PDP, Enugu).

Maggaji Tambuwal, the returning officer for the election and Clerk of the National Assembly, declared Abbas as the elected candidate, confirming that he met all the requirements of the law.
