Anambra gov’t warns against child prostitution, rescues 12 victims from brothels

The Anambra State Government has issued a stern warning to brothel operators against using underage girls for their establishments as perpetrators will be prosecuted.
The Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, gave the warning following the rescue of 12 girls, some as young as 15, from brothels in the state capital.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the girls were rescued during a joint operation conducted by the ministry and the police at a guest house in Amawbia.
Obinabo said the government is committed to eradicating child trafficking and sexual slavery and the arrested brothel owner is now facing investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka.
She said the rescued girls have received medical attention and their families have been notified.
