DSS takes custody of suspended CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, confirms arrest
The Department of State Services (DSS), a covert security agency of the government, has confirmed the arrest of Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Initially, the DSS released a statement on Saturday morning denying any custody of Godwin Emefiele. However, they have now acknowledged his arrest.
The statement from Peter Afunanya, the Public Relations Officer of the DSS, National Headquarters, Abuja reads as follows:

“The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby confirms that Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), is now in our custody for investigative reasons.
“We urge the public, particularly the media, to exercise utmost caution in reporting and narrating this matter”.
It is important to recall that President Bola Tinubu suspended Emefiele on Friday, a decision that sparked reactions across the country.
As part of the suspension, Emefiele was instructed to immediately hand over the responsibilities of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate).
The Deputy Governor will serve as the interim Central Bank Governor while investigations and reforms are underway.
