NIPOST, NIS collaborate to expedite passport collection process
The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) and the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) have joined forces to streamline passport collection processes and reduce delays for Nigerians.
Rt. Hon. Adeyemi Sunday Adepoju, the Postmaster General of the Federation and CEO of NIPOST, recently led his management team on a visit to Caroline Wura-Ola Adepoju, the Acting Comptroller General of Immigration, at the Service Command Headquarters in Sauka, Abuja.
During the meeting, they discussed strategies to enhance efficiency and expedite passport collection.
The Postmaster General emphasized the importance of this collaboration, especially in light of NIPOST’s integrated service delivery model.
This model aims to provide citizens with a one-stop shop environment at selected post office locations nationwide, offering various government services and information through multiple channels to meet diverse needs.
As part of this arrangement, the NIS will leverage NIPOST’s infrastructure for passport collection, utilizing the postal network as an e-Fulfillment center to bolster the digital economy.
Adepoju further explained that this collaboration aims to establish a sustainable and integrated framework for e-Passport processing, courier services, and address verification validation. It will also consolidate NIPOST’s efforts to enhance productivity synergy with the NIS.
In response, the Acting Comptroller General applauded NIPOST for its notable achievement in developing an Address Verification System, which serves as a significant breakthrough for identity management.
She also commended NIPOST for introducing a standardized Digital Postcode System, which will facilitate passport issuance. She expressed her belief that this collaboration would strengthen the partnership and cultivate strategic methods to fulfill their mandate to Nigerian citizens.
The Acting Comptroller General stated that this collaboration would address the challenges faced by Nigerians during the passport registration process, reduce waiting times for biometric data capture, and make passport processing seamless and faster.
Ultimately, it aims to alleviate the difficulties Nigerians encounter while obtaining Nigerian passports.
Both the Postmaster General and the Acting Comptroller General agreed to develop a framework for their ongoing working relationship, ensuring continued cooperation and progress.
