No Regrets: Gov. Yusuf stands firm on property demolition, calls for Emirate Council’s support
Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, expressed no regrets on Friday over the demolition of properties his administration deemed “illegal.”
He conveyed this message to the Emir of Kano and chairman of the Kano Council of Emirs, His Highness Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, urging him to continue supporting the administration’s policies aimed at fostering development and providing democratic benefits to the people of the state.
Governor Yusuf made these remarks at the Kano Government House during a Sallah homage paid by Emir Aminu Ado Bayero, accompanied by District Heads and other members of the Emirate Council, as part of the Eid El Kabir celebrations.
The Governor, popularly known as Abba Gida-Gida, firmly asserted that he had no regrets regarding the demolition exercise and the recovery of public property that had been “illegally acquired and distributed to influential individuals by the previous administration.”

He added, “Your Highness, it is crucial for the Emirate Council to understand that we embarked on the demolition exercise to reclaim public properties that were acquired illegally, and we will ensure that all such properties are restored for the benefit of the good people of Kano.”
Governor Yusuf also expressed his gratitude to the Emir and members of the Emirate Council for their visit, which was the first of its kind since he assumed office. He proceeded to outline the achievements of his administration during the first 31 days in office.
These achievements included the payment of NECO fees amounting to N1.5 billion for 55,000 secondary school students, the restoration of street lights, and a reduction in cases of phone snatching within Kano metropolis.
Furthermore, Governor Yusuf highlighted the resumption of screenings for the award of foreign scholarships to Kano indigenes with first-class degrees, the timely payment of salaries and pensions, and the successful evacuation of thousands of tons of refuse within the metropolis.
In his response, Emir Aminu Ado Bayero stated that the purpose of their visit was to extend greetings to the Governor for Eid El Kabir. He assured the Governor of his willingness to offer advice that would be beneficial for the development of the state.
The First Class monarch also called on the government and affluent individuals to assist the less privileged in alleviating the impact of fuel subsidy removal.
