Ohanaeze backs Enugu State government’s efforts to end sit-at-home

The Apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, has expressed its support for the Enugu State Government’s efforts to end the Sit-at-home in Enugu starting from Monday, June 5, 2023.
The group has also pleaded with all Biafra agitators to honor their commitment to cancel the sit-at-home order imposed on the South-East region.
In a statement issued by the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, he emphasized that this call comes after the Enugu State Government’s declaration that all government, business, and educational activities should resume on Monday across the State.

Nnabuike lamented the fact that despite the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) canceling the Monday sit-at-home order due to its detrimental impact on the South-East economy, some enemies of Ndigbo continue to enforce it.
He stated, “Now that the Governor of Enugu State has made an appeal for the sit-at-home to end, we passionately appeal to all the agitators, including IPOB, MASSOB, Author Pilot, Zionists, and others, to lay down their arms and allow normalcy to return.”
Nnabuike emphasized that the ongoing sit-at-home actions have gravely harmed and destroyed the lives, economy, and image of the Igbo people, which is contrary to the principles that Biafra stands for.
“While we continue to demand the unconditional release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and we will not relent until the federal government takes appropriate action, we should not further damage our land in the process,” Nnabuike added.
He urged the leaders of the various Biafra agitators to align themselves with the decision of the Enugu State Government, calling on them not to remain silent but to appeal to their followers to refrain from actions that would jeopardize the lives of the people.
He emphasized that the Governor’s statement was clearly an appeal, and all those who love Igbo land should support it.
Additionally, the Ohanaeze Youths Council implored the Enugu State Government to work towards the immediate release of agitators arrested in the State during the May 30 Biafra Day celebrations.
This action would ensure unity and cooperation in efforts to establish a new era of peace, progress, and free movement of people, goods, and services throughout Enugu State and Igbo land.
Nnabuike stated, “This will further demonstrate that the government is pro-masses and committed to the welfare and safety of the people.”
