UNFPA pledges continuous support for gender equality, fight against GBV

The United Nations Population Fund in Nigeria (UNFPA Nigeria) says it has secured more funds for the implementation of programmes that focus on gender equality and eradication of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Adamawa State.
The Fund’s Country Representative, Ulla Mueller, said this during a courtesy visit to Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta, the Deputy
Governor of Adamawa in Yola.
She commended the commitment and political will demonstrated by the Adamawa State Government to achieve desired goals.
Mueller explained that she had been an advocate of gender equality and women development, as she heaped accolades on
Prof. Farauta for her humility.
In her remarks, Farauta reiterated the state government’s commitment to work with partners to ensure that the girl-child
is protected against GBV.
She commended UNFPA for the projects and developments it brought to the state and expressed government’s readiness
to sustain the partnership.
She said, “Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri had for long took the bull by the horn to ensure the girl-child received quality education and other privileges to ensure a better life.
“The girl-child deserves a level playing field with their male counterparts, especially by getting them educated and placed on the right ground.”
She further assured the state government’s resolve to take issues affecting the girl-child serious so as to make them productive members of the society.
