Voting underway as senators elect Senate President in 10th National Assembly
The voting process to elect the principal officers of the Nigerian Senate has commenced on the floor as the 10th National Assembly prepares for its inauguration on Tuesday.
Senator Ali Ndume nominated Senator Godswill Akpabio, with Senator Olamilekan Solomon Yayi from Ogun State seconding the nomination.
Likewise, Senator Ishaku Abbo put forward the name of Senator Abdul Aziz Yari for Senate President.

After receiving the nominations for Yari and Akpabio, the Clerk of the Senate declared the nominations closed, as there were no further nominations.
The contest now centres on Yari, the former governor of Zamfara State, and Akpabio, the former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs and ex-governor of Akwa Ibom State.
Currently, the lawmakers are voting according to their respective states.
