Zamfara varsity students block major road to protest abduction of colleagues
Story from Maimunat MOHAMMED
Students of Federal University Gusau took to the streets in a powerful demonstration, blocking movement along the Zaria-Sokoto- Zamfara, Kastina road, to express their outrage and demand action following the abduction of their school mates.
The protesting students led by the student leaders marched from Damba to Sabon-Gida, the community opposite the main campus of the university where five students were kidnapped on Friday night and further culminated at the Zamfara State Government House.
The abduction of their colleagues has ignited a wave of anger and concern among the university community. The students, carrying placards with poignant messages, marched through the streets, demanding immediate intervention to secure the release of the kidnapped students and ensure their safety.
The school was expected to start examination on the 19th of June 2023, but the disheartened incident led students to “No students, No exams”.
The protest, which gained momentum both offline and online, was marked by the widely shared hashtag #stopkidnappingstudents. Students and sympathizers took to social media platforms, expressing solidarity and calling on relevant authorities to prioritise the rescue of the abducted students.
As the protest unfolded, student leaders delivered a passionate speech, condemning the incessant abduction of students and urged the government to take urgent and decisive action.
They called for increased security presence in and around the university campus to prevent further incidents and create a safe learning environment for all.
