Gov. Zulum prohibits metal scavenging in Borno

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has taken a decisive step in banning metal scavenging across the twenty-seven local government areas of the state.
This action follows the Governor’s on-site assessment where he discovered a significant accumulation of metal scraps, believed to be parts of government property.

During his tour of various projects, Governor Zulum stumbled upon a large quantity of metal scraps, including a considerable number that appeared to belong to federal authorities and the state government.
In an interview, the Governor highlighted the dangers associated with metal scavenging, stating that over the past few years, around one thousand people lost their lives in the state due to this activity.
He expressed concerns that some individuals engaged in the trade were even stealing public property, such as street lights poles and telecommunication company tanks.
Governor Zulum further emphasized that this scavenging business had caused damage to vehicles in the local government areas. As a result, the government cannot allow these nefarious activities to persist any longer.
To combat the issue and ensure the safety of both the scavengers and the public, Governor Zulum has implemented a ban on all scavenging activities through an executive order.
The objective is to bring order and sanity to business activities while safeguarding the lives of the scavengers themselves.
With this proactive measure, the Borno State Government aims to protect valuable public property, prevent further loss of lives, and promote a safer environment for all residents of the state.
