Senator Abubakar Kyari assumes acting National Chairman position of APC
Senator Abubakar Kyari, the Deputy National Chairman (North) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has assumed the role of acting National Chairman of the party following the resignation of Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
According to the party’s constitution, when a national chairman resigns, the deputy national chairman from the respective zone takes over in an acting capacity.
Kyari, accompanied by members of the National Working Committee (NWC), convened a meeting at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja under tight security.

Joining Kyari at the meeting were: Emma Enukwu, Deputy National Chairman (South); Salihu Lukman, National Vice Chairman (North-West); Salihu Mustapha, National Vice Chairman (North-East); Muazu Bawa, National Vice Chairman (North Central); Issacs Kekemeke, National Vice Chairman (South-West); Ejoroma Arodiogu, National Vice Chairman (South-East); and Barr. Festus Fuanter, the Deputy National Secretary.
Born on January 15, 1960, in Borno State, Kyari is the son of the late Brigadier Abba Kyari, a former military administrator of North Central from 1967 to 1975.
He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee Martin in the USA in 1986. Subsequently, in 1989, he pursued his Master’s in Business Administration at Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.
Kyari’s political career began in 1998 when he was elected as a member of the House of Representatives under the defunct United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP). He continued his tenure in the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2003, this time representing the defunct All People’s Party (APP).
Between 2003 and 2005, as well as from 2007 to 2011, Kyari served as a Commissioner in Borno State. In 2015, he was elected as a Senator representing Borno North on the platform of the APC. He secured re-election in 2019 and fulfilled his duties until his appointment as Deputy National Chairman in 2022.
