Urgent Appeal To The Nigerian Air Force Borno State Command: Balancing security and access on the Maiduguri/Kano Expressway, by Ahmed Bolori

The Commanding Officer
Nigerian Air Force
Borno State Command
Maiduguri.

Dear Sir,

I am writing to express my heartfelt appreciation and gratitude for the unwavering dedication and efforts demonstrated by the Nigerian Air Force in contributing to the restoration of peace and security in Maiduguri and its surrounding regions. Your exceptional commitment to safeguarding the lives and well-being of the citizens is truly commendable.

Allow me to introduce myself; my name is Amb. Ahmed Bolori, and I currently serve as the Special Adviser to the Governor of Kogi State on Public Relations. However, my roots are firmly grounded in Borno State, and the well-being of its people holds a special place in my heart. Before I proceed, I want to make it clear that I am writing to you today solely as a private and concerned Borno citizen. The views expressed in this letter are entirely personal and are not representative of any official capacity.

As an ardent observer of the region’s progress, I must recognize the significant strides made in the fight against insurgency, leading to a notable reduction in Boko Haram activities and the return of relative peace to the area. Your relentless efforts in collaboration with other security agencies have not gone unnoticed and are deeply appreciated by the entire nation.

However, I would like to bring to your attention an important matter concerning the decision to block one lane of the expressway, effectively making it a one-way road. While I understand that security considerations may have influenced this decision, it is vital to consider the broader implications it holds for the populace and the state’s overall image.

The Maiduguri/Kano-Jos expressway is of immense significance, serving as the only entrance and access road to Maiduguri from across the country. As such, any disruptions or road closures will send a strong message to both the citizens and visitors about the state of security in the area. While the reduction in Boko Haram activities is commendable, the current road closure could inadvertently create negative perceptions about the state of security in Maiduguri and lower the confidence of the populace, especially among strangers and potential investors.

I would like to propose an alternative approach that could achieve the desired security objectives without causing unnecessary inconvenience to the people and without compromising the positive image of the state. Instead of completely blocking the lane, it could be divided into two sections, allowing motorists to use one part of it while ensuring that no parking is permitted. This approach would not only address the security concerns but also provide a practical solution for motorists and travelers.

By adopting this approach, you can effectively strike a balance between ensuring security and maintaining the smooth flow of traffic, thus fostering a more positive perception of the state’s security situation. Furthermore, this measure would demonstrate the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to the welfare of the people, which will undoubtedly earn even greater support and trust from the local population.

Once again, I extend my sincerest gratitude for your selfless service in safeguarding our beloved nation and contributing to the restoration of peace in the region. Your dedication and sacrifices have not gone unnoticed, and I believe that with collaborative efforts and innovative approaches, we can continue to build a secure and prosperous future for the people of Maiduguri and Nigeria as a whole.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I remain hopeful that my suggestion will receive your thoughtful attention and lead to a mutually beneficial resolution for all stakeholders involved.

With profound respect and admiration,

Amb. Ahmed Bolori.
