Google expands payment options for Nigerians with Verve card integration

In an effort to simplify digital transactions for Nigerians, Google has joined forces with Verve, allowing for easier purchases on the Google Play Store.

Starting from Wednesday, Nigerians will have the convenience of using their Verve cards to make transactions on the Google Play Store.

Through this new partnership, Google will process Verve transactions within Nigeria, with payments being conducted in naira and treated as local transactions by the country’s banking institutions.

Anthea Crawford, Head of Retail and Payment Partnerships at Google Play, expressed her enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are thrilled to collaborate with Verve, expanding Google Play access for more Nigerians. The introduction of local payments with Verve cards is a significant milestone, enabling more Nigerians to participate in the app economy and access the apps they need.”

Vincent Ogbunude, Managing Director of Verve International, also commented on the development, saying, “The integration with Google Play is a significant stride towards achieving Verve’s vision of promoting financial inclusion. We are excited to bring digital content and services closer to Verve cardholders, hence bridging the digital divide.”

With this partnership, Google and Verve aim to make digital content and services more accessible to Nigerians, fostering financial inclusion and empowering individuals to be part of the ever-growing app economy.
