NCS/FRSC collaborate to strengthen national vehicle information database

Story from Haruna YUSUF

Highlighting a noteworthy collaboration aimed at bolstering national security and minimizing revenue loss, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) have embarked on a comprehensive integration of their vehicle databases.

This fruitful partnership was solidified during the visit of the Acting Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, to the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Dauda Ali Biu, at the national headquarters of the Commission on Thursday.

During the visit, the Acting Comptroller General emphasized the NSC’s renewed commitment to collaborating with the Corps in the areas of human resource development, information and communication technology, and sports.

Highlighting the importance of this collaboration, Adeniyi stated, “Handshaking and effectively consolidating the existing vehicle information in the National Vehicle Identification Scheme database hosted by the FRSC, along with the NCS vehicle database, will play a significant role in curbing vehicle smuggling, enhancing revenue generation, and improving national security.”

In response, the Corps Marshal commended the initiative, stating that this handshake and data sharing not only strengthen the bond between the two agencies but also significantly contribute to the fight against vehicle smuggling.

Biu further emphasized that this collaboration will also streamline the ease of doing business by facilitating the tracking of vehicles without customs duty certificates during the registration process.

Urging CG Bashir Adewale to prioritize the enforcement of restrictions on the importation of vehicles above the specified legal age limit, Biu made it clear that this partnership aims to create a safer environment. He also called for enhanced enforcement of the ban on the importation of hazardous tires.
