Following the release of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ministerial list with 28 nominees yesterday, 27th July, 2023, an old video of the immediate past Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, saying he did not intend to become a minister after his tenure as governor is trending online.

Nyesom Wike was named in the list submitted to the senate on Thursday as one of the ministerial nominees.

In the trending video, Wike said, “Only one person can be a minister from a state; I will not be a minister. I will not. I am not a liability; Rivers State is an asset. So if you don’t want to win an election, it’s your business. I’m not the one running the election.

“He who wears the shoes knows where it pinches him,” the former governor said.

The names of President Tinubu’s 28 ministerial nominees were read by the Senate President, GodsWill Akpabio, at the plenary on Thursday.

The letter containing the list of the ministerial nominees was personally delivered by the Chief of Staff and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Those that made the list include Nyesom Wike, Mohamed Badaru, Nasir El-Rufai, Ekperikpe Ekpo, Nkiru onyejiocha, Olubumi Ojo, Stella okotekpe, Uju Kennedy, Bello Mohammed Goroyo, Dele Alake, and Lateef Fagbemi.

Others are Abubakar Momoh, Amb Yusuf Maitama, Architect, Ahmad Dangiwa, Hanatu Musawa, Chief Uche Nnaji, Beta Edu, Doris Aniche, and David Umahi.

Also on the list are Mohammed Idris, Olawale Edun, Adebayo Adelabu, Imma Suleiman, Ali Pate, Joseph Utsev, Abubaka kyari, John Eno, and Sani Abubakar Danladi.

However, the Chief of Staff to President Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, said that the administration may create new ministries from the existing ones.

“Mr President intends to separate portfolios or restructure the ministries in such a way you might be hearing of new ministries that were not standalone ministries before. So the process continues,” he said.
