Anambra law student Onyinye Omenugha receives Princess Diana prestigious award

Onyinye Omenugha, a 24-year-old law student from Anambra State in Nigeria, has been recognized with the esteemed Princess Diana Award for 2023.
The award, established in 1999 to honor Princess Diana’s commitment to marginalized communities, celebrates outstanding young individuals worldwide.
The Princess Diana Award acknowledges the remarkable achievements of individuals between the ages of 9 and 25 who have made a positive impact on humanity, embodying the values exemplified by Princess Diana.
Supported by prominent figures such as former British Prime Minister David Cameron and former Scottish First Minister Jack McConnel, the Diana Award Charity aims to inspire and mobilize younger generations to create lasting global change.

Onyinye received this prestigious award in recognition of her non-governmental organization (NGO), Lawsanaid. Founded by Onyinye, Lawsanaid aims to provide quality and inclusive education to law students with disabilities.
Her dedication to this cause aligns with the work of previous Diana Award recipients who have demonstrated the ability to inspire and engage their communities, as highlighted by Tessy Ojo, the CEO of the Diana Award Charity.
Regarded as a role model within the legal industry, Onyinye actively mentors others, promotes creativity, and advocates for youth-led initiatives.
Professor Cornelius Ukwueze, who taught Onyinye during her undergraduate program at Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, expresses his confidence in her international recognition, believing that she is destined for even greater achievements.
Hailing from Nnobi in the Idemili South Local Government Area, Onyinye comes from a family of accomplished individuals. She is the youngest child of Dr. Mike Omenugha, a medical practitioner, and Dr. Kate Azuka Omenugha, Nigeria’s second female full professor of mass communication, who served as the Anambra State Commissioner for Education from 2014 for eight years.
While awaiting her call to the Nigerian Bar, Onyinye is already a certified arbitrator with the Chartered Institute of Arbitration (UK) and a member of the Institute of Chartered Mediation and Conciliation.
She has also participated in courses and conferences organized by prestigious institutions such as the United Nations, the European Union, and Harvard University.
Dr. Emeka Obegolu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) based in Abuja, sees Onyinye’s achievements as a testament to her passion and dedication.
The Honorable Henry Nigeria Mbachu, a newly elected member of the Anambra State House of Assembly representing the Awka South 1 Constituency, views this recognition as an indication of even greater accomplishments to come, given his long-standing acquaintance with Onyinye.
