APC vice chairman, Salihu Lukman, resigns in protest against Ganduje
The national vice chairman (North West) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Mohammed Lukman, has tendered his resignation. Lukman, who is also a member of the APC National Working Committee (NWC), expressed his concerns about the party’s direction, stating that it diverges from the original vision of its founding fathers.
In a letter addressed to the party’s acting national chairman, Senator Abubakar Kyari, Lukman highlighted his reservations regarding the potential appointment of ex-Governor Abdullahi Ganduje to replace Senator Abdullahi Adamu, the former National Chairman of the ruling party.

Lukman stated, “I hereby kindly resign my position as National Vice Chairman, North-West of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC). My resignation is with immediate effect, as I firmly believe that the current atmosphere in the party is completely contrary to the core principles upon which we formed a progressive party.”
Acknowledging the importance of not becoming a distraction to party leaders and President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, Lukman made the difficult decision to step aside from politics for the time being. However, he expressed his intention to remain a member of the party, hoping that the leaders, particularly President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, would reconsider engaging in unjust and illegal actions that undermine the party’s democratic and progressive values.
Lukman extended his gratitude to the party leaders in Kaduna, especially Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, for nominating him to serve at the highest level of the party’s leadership. While regretful of the circumstances that led to his resignation, Lukman emphasized that he had no choice but to take this step. He concluded his letter by wishing the party and its leaders, particularly President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the best and assuring them of his continued support from the sidelines.
