Bandits flee as troops launch major operation in Kaduna forest

Bandits fled from their hideouts around Kagarko, Iche, Taka-Lafiya, Gidan Makeri, and Janjala communities in Kaduna State after over 100 troops stormed the forest in Kagarko LGA.

For months, many rural communities in Kagarko Chiefdom had been under siege by bandits who abducted residents and farmers.

The situation, however, took a positive turn as troops raided the bandits’ hideouts and arrested some suspected informants in several rural communities, effectively containing the threat.

A traditional title holder in Kagarko, Suleiman Aliyu, spoke with our reporter through telephone on Wednesday and praised the troops’ efforts.

He explained that the troops arrived in Kagarko town at about 11 am on Wednesday, using Hilux vans, trucks, and motorcycles to swiftly move to Iche, Taka-Lafiya, Gidan Makeri, and Janjala villages around the forest to hunt down the bandits.

The operation was prompted by intelligence information indicating that some fleeing bandits from the far north were attempting to establish a camp in the area.

Since the arrest of some informants, the residents of Kagarko Chiefdom felt a sigh of relief, according to Aliyu.

A source from the palace of the Emir of Kagarko, who preferred to remain anonymous, confirmed that a large number of troops entered the forest, possibly raiding the bandits’ hideouts.

At the time of filing this report, there was no response from the spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command regarding the incident.
