Chairmanship: Ganduje’s banners replace Adamu’s at APC secretariat

As the National Caucus and National Executive Committee meetings of the All Progressives Congress approach, banners featuring former Kano Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, have flooded the national secretariat of the ruling party.

Banners have replaced billboards that previously showcased the image of former National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.

This change has not been limited to just the billboards, as many of Adamu’s posters at the entrance and inside the party’s national secretariat in Abuja have also been replaced.

This development comes after the resignation of Adamu and the former National Secretary of APC, Iyiola Omisore, three weeks ago.

The resignations were prompted by allegations of constitutional breaches, failure to account for party funds for a year, and sidelining the National Working Committee in decision-making processes.

Under the observation of security personnel assigned to the secretariat, the incident occurred on Sunday, two days before the highly anticipated National Caucus and NEC meetings scheduled for August 2nd and 3rd.

Also four large billboards endorsing Ganduje as the next national chairman of the ruling party were strategically positioned around the party premises.

One billboard was placed at the beginning of Blantyre Crescent, while another was mounted at the entrance to the secretariat.

The remaining two were erected inside the secretariat with messages congratulating Ganduje on his appointment as APC Leader and highlighting his leadership qualities that have earned him the support of the party stalwarts.looding of Ganduje’s images and congratulatory messages throughout the secretariat is seen as a subtle confirmation that the APC may have chosen him as the new national chairman.

Several support groups, including the Coalition of North-Central Leaders and APC chairmen in seven North-West states, have endorsed Ganduje as well.

General Lawrence Onoja, a former Principal Staff Officer to the late military Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, and some Middle Belt elders in the APC, have backed Ganduje to assume the position of the former National Chairman in an acting capacity.

Salihu Lukman, the former APC National Vice Chairman for North-West, who had been a staunch opponent of Ganduje’s growing support, resigned in protest.

In his resignation letter, Lukman highlighted the alleged imposition of the former senator and constant interference in the party’s leadership as reasons for his decision.

All efforts to obtain a reaction from the National Publicity Secretary of APC, Felix Morka, proved unsuccessful. However, the  Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, characterized the situation as part and parcel of the dynamism of politics.

He stated, “You cannot rule out the removal of Adamu’s banners happening. That is the nature of politics and life’s dynamism.”

“It is not just about the chairman leaving the party; it’s a reminder that we all leave this world eventually.

One day, we will all be committed to mother earth, and life will go on. Before Adamu, there was a chairman, and after Adamu, there will be a chairman,” Ibrahim added.
