Closure of Maiduguri-Kano highway: Ambassador Ahmed Bolori appeals to Nigerian Air Force
Ambassador Ahmed Bolori, Special Adviser to the Governor of Kogi State on Public Relations, has written a letter to the Commanding Officer of the Nigerian Air Force, Borno State Command, regarding the closure of one lane of the Maiduguri-Kano dual carriage Highway.
The closure, which affects the portion in front of the gates of the Nigerian Air Force base adjacent to the Muhammmadu Buhari International Airport, Maiduguri, was implemented to prevent potential suicide or terrorist attacks. However, the closure has resulted in numerous car accidents, many of them fatal.
The issue gained attention when Governor Babagana Umara Zulum visited the scene after a tragic accident claimed several lives, prompting Ambassador Ahmed Bolori, a concerned citizen and native of Borno State, to write and appeal to the Air Chief.
In his letter, Ambassador Ahmed commends the Nigerian Air Force for their dedication and efforts in restoring peace and security in Maiduguri. He acknowledges the importance of security measures but also highlights the negative impact that the road closure has had on the community. The Maiduguri-Kano Highway is the main access road to the city, and any disruptions or closures send a message about the state of security in the area.
Ambassador Ahmed suggests an alternative approach that balances security and accessibility. He proposes dividing the closed lane into two sections, allowing motorists to use one part while prohibiting parking. This compromise would address the security concerns while providing a practical solution for motorists and travelers. Ambassador Ahmed believes that this approach would improve the perception of security in the state and garner greater support and trust from the local population.
Ambassador Bolori expresses his gratitude for the service of the Nigerian Air Force and calls for collaboration to ensure the well-being of the people of Maiduguri.
