Fuel price rises to N617 per litre

The price of petrol has increased to about N617 per litre as of Tuesday, 18 July 2023.

According to Daily Trust, a visit to one NNPC filling station in the central area of Abuja confirmed that the fuel price has now been adjusted from N539 to N617 per litre.

Another customer who confirmed the development simply said, “It is true, I just bought at N617 per liter,”

The immediate reason could not be ascertained but it is not unconnected to the recent projections by oil marketers that fuel price will hit N700 per litre soon.

However, the Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NDMPRA) is yet to comment to as at the time of filling this report.

Neptune Prime reports that the Nigerian oil marketers projected a rise above N700 per litre for the pump price of petrol in the country starting from July.

The National Controller Operations, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Mr Mike Osatuyi, said that once independent marketers begin importing products in July, prices could rise above N700 in the north.

He said while those living in the northern states could pay as much as N700 and above for one litre of petrol, those outside Lagos should expect to pay around N610, as residents in Lagos would pay about N600 per litre.
