He noted that, according to medical experts, Anthrax is a one-health disease that both humans and animals are at risk of contracting.

“Government has procured 1,500,000 doses of ASV vaccine to cover the vaccination exercise on the estimated livestock population of about 7,000,000 in all the 17 Local Government Areas of the state.

“At this period of the year, there is always a high rate of movement of pastoralists, this exercise therefore, would foster our gains against the spread of Trans-boundary Animal Diseases (TADs)”, said Governor Buni.

He enjoined all Veterinary Doctors, animal health workers and other stakeholders to work hard to ensure that all nooks and crannies of the state are fully covered in this state-wide exercise.

The Governor revealed that the state is no doubt one of the leading states with a high population of livestock in the country and shall continue to take proactive measures against outbreaks of animal diseases and to give full protection to the state livestock.

Buni appealed to all the relevant federal and state agencies to closely monitor the movement of herdsmen from other countries into Nigeria to further boost the state drive to prevent Anthrax and other diseases imported to Yobe State in particular and Nigeria at large.

“To achieve our objectives in this respect, we shall intensify our efforts in providing proper checks, effective and efficient quarantine services at strategic locations at the corridors of our international boundary,” he added.
