Gov. Umaru Bago pledges unwavering commitment to end insecurity
Niger State Governor, Rt Hon. Mohammed Umaru Bago, reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering determination to tackle the ongoing security challenges in the state, according to a press release by Bologi Ibrahim, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Niger State.
During a meeting with the new Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of zone 7 at the Government House in Minna, Governor Umaru Bago expressed his readiness to collaborate with the Nigerian Police Force to secure the vast arable land in the state.
He acknowledged that criminals had taken advantage of the expansive land, using ungoverned spaces as havens for their nefarious activities.
To address this issue, the Governor announced the creation of a Ministry of Pastoral and Nomadic Affairs.
This ministry will focus on securing the forests and ungoverned spaces by engaging with the inhabitants of those areas. The goal is to facilitate the safe return of farmers and nomads to their farmlands.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to restoring peace and security in all parts of the state, Governor Bago emphasized the crucial partnership with the police in achieving this objective.
The Governor extended his gratitude to the new AIG for the visit and congratulated him on his new assignment.
He assured the AIG of the state’s unwavering support to ensure his success in the new role.
In response, the new AIG, Mr. Adebowale Williams, acknowledged that zone 7 covered the FCT and Niger state.
He commended the state government’s unique, uncommon, and strategic security interventions, which have significantly aided the police in fulfilling their national assignment effectively.
The AIG expressed appreciation for the Governor’s donation of a new facility to accommodate the Chanchaga police division, with the capacity to house the Area command.
He noted that the gesture had instilled a sense of entitlement in the police force.
Furthermore, the AIG assured the Governor that with the recent donation of 12 brand new patrol vehicles and accessories to the state command, the police would be better equipped to provide adequate security and respond promptly to emergencies.
The AIG appealed for more support for the police, as they have evolved new strategies to combat any threats to lives and properties in the state.
