Kebbi customs officer dies in collision with alleged smuggler
A customs officer, Aminu Abdullahi, attached to the Kebbi customs area command, was tragically killed while on duty by a suspected smuggler named Abdulwasiu Salawudeen.
The incident took place on the tarmac road in Yauri, under the Yauri local government area of the state.
Mubarak Mustapha, the Public Relations Officer of the Kebbi State area customs command, issued a statement yesterday in Birnin Kebbi metropolis, informing journalists about the incident.
According to the statement, the officer was on his line of duty when a 2015 Toyota Corolla with the chassis number 2TBURHE3FC456204, registered to Abdulwasiu Salawudeen, collided with him on the tarmac road in Yauri.
The statement further indicated that the officer was immediately rushed to the general hospital in Yauri for medical treatment.
Despite receiving proper first aid, he was later transferred to the orthopedic hospital in Wamakko, Sokoto State. Tragically, he passed away during the course of his treatment.
Abdulwasiu Salawudeen, the suspected driver, has been arrested and detained by customs officials at the customs area command for further investigation.
In light of the devastating incident, the Birnin Kebbi area controller of the customs command, Ben Oramalugo, led senior officers of the command in expressing their condolences to the family of the deceased officer.
They also offered prayers to Almighty Allah for his forgiveness.
