National Judicial Council recommends CJN’s son, 22 others as Federal High Court Judges
The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended Olukayode Ariwoola Jr., the son of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, for appointment as a judge of the Federal High Court.
This recommendation was made at the 103rd meeting of the Council, which was presided over by CJN Justice Olukayode Ariwoola in Abuja.
According to a statement released on Friday by the council’s spokesperson, Soji Oye, the appointment of Mr. Ariwoola Jr. was part of a larger list of recommendations. The council recommended one Grand Kadi, 23 judges for the Federal High Court, and four Kadis for the Sharia Court of Appeal in Kano.
Mr. Oye further explained that the list of successful candidates was presented by the Interview Committee of the National Judicial Council. After careful deliberation, the council approved the recommendation for the positions of Head of Court and other Judicial Officers for the Federal High Court, as well as the Sharia Courts of Appeal in Kaduna and Kano State.
The newly appointed Federal High Court Judges, along with Mr. Ariwoola Jr., include Ekerete Udofot Akpan, Hussaini Dadan-Garba, Egbe Raphael Joshua, Anyalewa Onoja-Alapa, Aishatu Auya Ibrahim, Ogazi Friday Nkemakolam, Ogundare Kehinde Olayiwola, Chigozie Sergius, Hauwa Joseph Yilwa, Amina Aliyu Mohammed, Sharon Tanko Ishaya, Chituru Joy Wigwe-Oreh, Musa Kakaki, Owoeye Alexander Oluseyi, Abiodun Jordan Adeyemi, Agbaje Olufunmilola Adetutu, Salim Olasupo Ibrahim, Dipeolu Ibrahim, Dipeolu Deinde Isaac, Abdullahi Muhammad Dan-Ige, and Mashkur Salisu.
Furthermore, the council recommended Kadi Muhammad Aminu Danjuma as the Grand Khadi for Kaduna State, while Muhammad Adam Kadem, Salisu Muhammad Isa, Isa Idris Sa’id, and Aliyu Muhammad Kani were recommended as Kadis for the Sharia Court of Appeal in Kano.
Mr. Oye stated that the recommended officials would be sworn in once they receive approval from the president and their respective state governors.
