Nigeria triumphs in U-21 women’s volleyball championship
Nigeria has emerged as the victor in the 2023 African U-21 Nations Women’s Volleyball Championship Zone 3, held in Niamey, Niger Republic.
In a thrilling final match on Sunday night, Nigeria defeated Ghana with an impressive 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-10) scoreline, securing the coveted title.
The Nigerian girls showcased their prowess right from the start, sailing past their local rivals Ghana in their first tournament match. They dominated the game with a resounding 3-0 (25-11, 25-15, 25-8) victory.

In their subsequent match against the hosts, Niger, Nigeria continued their winning streak with an emphatic 3-0 (25-4, 25-11, 25-4) triumph.
Not slowing down, the Nigerian team displayed their superiority once again in their third match against Benin Republic. They triumphed with an outstanding 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-9) scoreline, securing their spot in the final against Ghana.
Following the remarkable win, Coach Rakiya Mohammed expressed her gratitude to God and the team for the historic achievement. She said, “We are immensely grateful to God because this marks the first time Nigeria has clinched a trophy at the underage level. It fills me with joy.”
Mohammed added, “Despite the strong competition from the Ghanaians, our girls proved their exceptional skills, and now we have qualified for the world championship in Thailand.”
News Agency of Nigeria reports that, the victorious Nigerian team is expected to return to Nigeria later today to celebrate their well-deserved victory.
