Nigerian man’s ‘Cry-a-thon’ World Record attempt results in partial blindness
A Nigerian man, identified as Tembu Ebere, recently revealed his harrowing experience of going ‘partially blind’ for 45 minutes during his ambitious attempt to break the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the ‘Cry-a-thon.’
In an interview with the BBC, Ebere confirmed that he suffered from severe symptoms during his record-breaking attempt, including “headaches, puffy eyes, and a swollen face.”
He admitted to having to force himself to cry continuously in order to meet the requirements for breaking the record. Determined to achieve his goal despite the difficulties encountered, Ebere explained that he had to re-strategize and reduce the intensity of his wailing.

However, despite his dedication and resilience, Ebere clarified that he did not apply to GWR beforehand, rendering his attempt unofficial.
Ebere’s endeavour was triggered by the recent GWR success of Hilda Bassey, who set the ‘cook-a-thon’ record by initially cooking for 100 hours. However, the official record confirmed by GWR was 93 hours and 11 minutes.
Inspired by Hilda’s achievement, several Nigerians, including Ekiti-based chef Damilola Adeparusi, also known as Chef Dammy, attempted to set new world records in their respective fields.
The surge in attempts prompted the Guinness World Records to issue a response through a tweet, urging individuals to apply and receive confirmation from their team before making any record-setting endeavours.
