No going back on planned strike, as the NLC list demands
The Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) has insisted on its intended strike, following the seven-day ultimatum to President Bola Tinubu’s administration to reverse “all anti-poor” people policies including the hike in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) known as petrol.
As a matter of national importance, the Labour Union issued its position and demands the following from the Government:
Immediate implementation in good faith of the resolutions with Congress jointly signed with the government and the TUC;
Prompt reversal of all anti-poor policies of government including the recent hike in PMS, schools, and VATS;
Fix our local refineries in Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna;
Release of 8 months withheld salaries of University lecturers and workers;

Immediate inauguration of the presidential steering committee and sub-committees as agreed in previous communications;
And, to put a stop to inhuman actions and policies of government.
Meanwhile, the Union also charged the Federal Government to deal accordingly with the criminal content of the petrol subsidy instead of exposing the ordinary citizens of Nigeria to avoidable pain and hardship.
They stressed the need to support poor and vulnerable Nigerians through structured and comprehensive social protection, Government support for education and health sectors instead of cocommercializinghem.
It should be recalled that in a Communique issued at the end of its Central Working Committee (CWC) meeting held in Abuja and signed by its President, Joe Ajaero; and the General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, the NLC threatened to declare an indefinite nationwide strike from August 2, 2023 if the Federal Government fails to address its demands.
The Federal Government will on Monday, July 31 meet with the representatives oforganizedzedalaborntohe nationwide strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress.
However, the NLC has urged citizens to stock their homes with food items, medicines, and other essential items ahead of the commencement of its seven-day strike to protest the removal of fuel subsidies and the escalating cost of living in the country.
