North East Development Commission: KACRAN applauds Tinubu’s move for continuity, progress
Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) extends its heartfelt commendation to President Tinubu for his exceptional consideration in reappointing the majority of the members of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) Management Board.
This was contained in a press release issued by Hon. Khalil Mohd Bello, National President, Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN).
This move comes at a crucial time when the North East region of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is still grappling with the devastating aftermath of Boko Haram insurgency, cattle rustling, and other illegal acts that have caused immense loss of life and property.
The establishment of NEDC in 2017 by the former President of Nigeria, Alhaji Muhammadu Buhari, was a wise decision aimed at providing essential services to the region, including the resettlement of internally displaced persons, provision of palliatives to IDPs, reconstruction of schools and houses, infrastructure development, and economic revitalization.
Since its inception, the NEDC has made remarkable progress under the leadership of its previous management board members. It has provided vital social services, including portable drinking water, to our beloved herders.
Additionally, the Commission has significantly contributed to enhancing the capabilities of our security forces by providing utility vehicles and essential equipment, which have played a pivotal role in reducing the level of insurgency in the region.
KACRAN recognizes the importance of NEDC in rebuilding the North East and improving the living standards of its people, especially the herders who directly benefit from the Commission’s policies and programs.
The recent report from the United Nations indicating an impending humanitarian crisis further underscores the urgency of reconstituting the NEDC Management Board.
The decision to retain most of the previous board members for another four-year term is a step in the right direction. Their experience and dedication to the region’s development will undoubtedly ensure continuity and quick progress.
However, KACRAN also appeals to President Tinubu to consider the remaining members of the Commission’s Management Board who worked diligently during their first tenure but were not reappointed. Their vast experiences, hard work, and sincerity can greatly contribute to the region’s progress.
Moreover, KACRAN calls on the Members of the National Assembly to expedite the affirmation process for the reappointed board members to facilitate the immediate commencement of their crucial tasks.
Additionally, we urge Mr. President and Vice President Kashim Shettima to involve NEDC in the implementation of federal and state governments’ palliative measures aimed at alleviating the hardship resulting from the total removal of oil subsidy.
In conclusion, KACRAN sincerely thanks Mr. President for his attention to the needs of the North East and the reappointment of NEDC Management Board members. We believe that swift action by the new board will be instrumental in saving countless lives in the region.
