President Tinubu defends fuel subsidy removal as best for Nigeria’s future

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reassured Nigerians that the decision to remove fuel subsidies was made in the best interest of the country and would pave the way for future prosperity.
During a meeting at the Presidential Villa with 18 governors who served alongside him in the Class of 1999, President Tinubu emphasized the need for patience as the government worked to implement measures to alleviate the effects of the subsidy removal.
President Tinubu acknowledged the challenges faced by the Nigerian people but likened the situation to the pain of childbirth, stating that the country was going through a rebirth that would ultimately benefit the majority, rather than a few smugglers.
He urged Nigerians to trust that the government was committed to implementing a comprehensive and secure social security structure that would not be compromised, particularly in terms of cash transfers.
Addressing the gathered governors, President Tinubu expressed gratitude for their support and discussed his unwavering commitment to democracy and the growth of the country.
He emphasized his dedication to unity, equity, stability, and prosperity in Nigeria.
President Tinubu highlighted the significance of addressing the country’s electricity issues, promising to tap into the nation’s gas resources and explore every opportunity to ensure stable power generation and supply.
Regarding security, the President urged Nigerians, especially those in Plateau State, to seek peaceful resolutions through dialogue and unity.
He reminded everyone that issues of borders are man-made and not created by God, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to stabilizing the country.
The former governors, led by Lucky Igbinedion, Chairman of the Class of 1999, pledged their support for President Tinubu’s vision and development policies, offering their experience and assistance in achieving a greater Nigeria.
The meeting concluded with President Tinubu expressing gratitude and acknowledging the presence of 19 attendees, including himself, and highlighting the importance of tapping into their collective wisdom and experience for the advancement of the country.
