Son allegedly strangles mother to death in Ogun State
A 32-year-old man named Samson Sikiru, reportedly struggling with drug addiction, is accused of strangling his mother to death on Sunday in Itanrin, located in the Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The suspect’s younger brother, who works as a night guard, made a shocking discovery when he returned from his night duty to find their mother lifeless. The news quickly spread among the neighbors, leading to Samson’s arrest, as he was identified as the perpetrator of this horrific crime. He was subsequently handed over to the police.
According to sources, Samson had been a known drug addict and had been absent from home for five years before recently returning. This incident highlights the devastating impact of drug addiction on individuals and their families.

Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omotola Odutola, confirmed the incident and revealed that the suspect is currently being treated as a neuropsychiatric patient. Due to his condition, Samson has occasionally been restrained by family members to prevent him from causing harm to himself or others.
“It is not yet clear if there was any provocation by his mother, but preliminary investigations indicate that earlier that day, he had been tied up in the house. Unfortunately, he managed to free himself and allegedly attacked his mother, strangling her,” Odutola explained.
Marks of violence, including lacerations on the deceased’s neck and right legs, were found, suggesting the use of force during the tragic incident.
While Samson remains in police custody, he has not provided coherent answers during questioning, leaving investigators with limited information about the motives behind this devastating act.
The authorities will continue to investigate this incident thoroughly, ensuring that justice is served for the victim and her grieving family.
