Tinubu orders thorough investigation into tragic shooting of 2-year-old in Delta State

President Bola Tinubu has swiftly directed the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The incident occurred when stray bullets from NDLEA officials conducting a raid on an alleged illicit drug joint in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area, struck Ivan and his younger sibling, Eromonsele, at their mother’s store.

The incident has sparked widespread outcry, provoking youth groups across the country, the Delta State government, and the Federal House of Representatives to demand justice.

The Federal House of Representatives has specifically called upon the Inspector-General of Police to prosecute the NDLEA officials involved in the shooting.

Responding to the tragedy on Tuesday, President Tinubu expressed deep sadness over the death of the toddler and the injury sustained by his sibling.
In response, he personally directed the NDLEA to take immediate action and investigate the incident thoroughly.

A statemente released by Mr. Dele Alake, the Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communication, and Strategy, conveyed the President’s directive to the NDLEA management to ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.

“The President has urged security agents to exercise greater professionalism and caution in their operations to prevent endangering the lives of innocent Nigerians,” the statement added.

President Tinubu mourned the loss of little Ivan Omhonrina and expressed his sympathies to the grieving parents, acknowledging the unimaginable pain they are enduring due to the tragic loss of their innocent child. He emphasized the need to ensure justice is served for Ivan and to prevent such a devastating incident from recurring.

“Ivan did not deserve to die in such a manner. We must ensure that justice is served, not only for Ivan but also to prevent a similar tragedy from befalling anyone else,” declared President Tinubu. He further extended his prayers for the swift recovery of Eromonsele, who was injured during the unfortunate event.

President Tinubu sternly condemned the incident, declaring it unacceptable. He stressed the importance of uncovering those responsible for inflicting agony upon the Omhonrina family and ensuring that they face the full weight of the law.
