Tragic Clash In Zamfara: 6 soldiers, 20 vigilantes killed in bandit ambush

On July 24, 2023, a tragic incident occurred in Zamfara State, resulting in the loss of six soldiers, one Nigeria Police personnel, and 20 vigilantes during a bandit attack on troops stationed in the area.

According to military sources, the attack, which targeted the troops of Sect 1 Forward Operating Base (FOB) Kango during a routine foot patrol, was met with a fierce defense.

The troops managed to repel the assailants and inflict significant casualties on the bandits. However, the government forces also suffered their share of losses during the intense encounter.

Reports indicate that among the fallen were one officer, five soldiers, one NPF personnel, and 20 vigilantes who had bravely joined forces with the troops to combat the attackers. Tragically, two soldiers are still missing in action.

The bodies of the deceased have been transported to Yerima Bakura Specialist Hospital in Gusau, Zamfara State.

In consideration of the sensitive nature of the situation, the specific details of the fallen heroes are being withheld until all necessary administrative procedures are completed to notify their respective families.

Search and rescue operations are currently underway to locate the missing soldiers.

In response to the threat of reprisals by the bandits following their significant casualties, the authorities have bolstered security at the FOB.

Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, could not be reached for immediate comment as of the time of this report. Efforts to contact him via text messages have gone unanswered.
