Ikeja under-bridge in Lagos witnessed a significant deployment of security personnel as members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) commenced nationwide protests against the removal of petrol subsidy.

Expressing their dissatisfaction with the President’s proposed palliatives, organized labor criticized them as being inadequate to alleviate the widespread suffering in the country.

Notably, Comrade Joe Ajaero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, was conspicuously absent at the meeting, but the NLC confirmed their determination to proceed with the planned national protest on Wednesday.

Following the Presidential Steering Committee on Palliatives held at the State House in Abuja, Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to the President, made an appeal to organized labor, urging them to suspend the planned protest.

Gbajabiamila emphasized that the President’s interventions were just initial steps and that ongoing conversations would take place.
