Atiku files new lawsuit questioning President Tinubu’s academic records

Story from Maimunat MOHAMMED

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who ran as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has filed a lawsuit against President Bola Tinubu in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Confirming this development on Sunday evening, Atiku Abubakar’s Special Assistant on Public Communications, Phrank Shaibu, explained that the new suit (No. 23-5099 N. D. III.) prompted the withdrawal of an existing case from the Circuit Court in Illinois.

Shaibu stated that Atiku withdrew the case in order to pursue the matter in a higher court, thereby preventing any potential abuse of the legal process.

The lawsuit revolves around Atiku’s challenge to Tinubu’s academic records, spanning from primary school to university.

Shaibu noted that Tinubu’s academic history has been called into question, leading to Atiku’s legal action, he pointed out that while recent ministerial screening in the Senate has seen nominees sharing their educational background, Tinubu’s lack of educational history, including primary, secondary, and university classmates, has raised concerns.

Shaibu emphasized that past Nigerian Presidents have engaged with their former classmates, even hosting them at the Presidential Villa. However, Tinubu’s purported absence of educational associates has sparked curiosity. Instead, he has been noted to engage with fellow governors from the 1999 set.

“This lawsuit marks the initial step in Atiku’s efforts to address these issues.” Shaibu added.
