Commercial motorcycle rider beats Kwara fish vendor to death over fare

In a tragic turn of events, Moshood Suleiman, a young fish farmer in his early thirties, has lost his life following a heated disagreement with a commercial motorcycle operator, popularly referred to as an okada rider, over a fare.

Daily Trust reported that the incident took place last week when Suleiman boarded an okada from Unity to Fate Road in Ilorin, Kwara state capital.

The paper added that a dispute erupted between Suleiman, who was a fish vendor in the Fate area, and the okada rider regarding the fare upon reaching the desired destination.

The situation escalated when other okada riders arrived at the scene and began assaulting Suleiman.

 

Fleeing from his attackers, Suleiman was relentlessly pursued until he was ambushed in front of a nearby filling station.
Thankfully, one of his family members, who had been informed about the distressing situation, arrived just in time to rescue him.

Suleiman was rushed to the Ilorin General Hospital for urgent medical attention, but tragically, he could not be saved and succumbed to his injuries.

Expressing heartfelt anguish, his sister, Oyindamola, demanded justice, stating,

“My brother cannot die in vain. Our family wants justice in the matter.

Those involved need to be identified and punished for their actions.”

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), in the state, Ayeni Olasunkanmi, revealed that three of the okada riders involved were swiftly apprehended by a passing NSCDC team.

However, Olasunkanmi mentioned that the matter now falls under the jurisdiction of the police.

The Police Public Relations Officer also in the state, Ajayi Okasanmi, expressed that he had not yet received a briefing on the incident but assured that he would gather the necessary information and provide an update at a later time.
