Woman dies after husband smashes her head over financial disagreement
Relatives of 30-year-old Rafiat Okewole are currently mourning her untimely death, which allegedly occurred at the hands of her husband, Wole. The incident took place in the Gas Line area of Ijoko, Ogun State, where the couple resided separately.
According to reports by The PUNCH, the tragic event transpired during a disagreement between Okewole and her husband on Sunday. She had visited him at his residence to collect money for their children’s upkeep, as she had been grappling with her husband’s failure to support their family.

The disagreement turned fatal when Wole purportedly slammed Okewole’s head against a wall. Despite the efforts made by concerned neighbors to save her, Okewole was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.
After one of the deceased’s siblings reported the incident to the police, the 41-year-old husband was apprehended. Akinola Shittu, Okewole’s devastated brother, expressed his shock and grief over the loss of his sister.
“I rushed to the house and saw that neighbors had already gathered, and my sister was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead. I am devastated,” Shittu lamented.
Basirat Liasu, the deceased’s sister, revealed that Okewole’s daughter had been present during the tragic event. Liasu explained that Okewole had visited her husband’s residence to request financial assistance for their children’s welfare.
“My sister was not living with Wole as of the time of the incident because she was his second wife. However, his first wife had also left earlier this year. She went there to ask for money for the children’s upkeep. One of her children who accompanied her to the house told neighbors that her father hit her mother’s head against the wall,” Liasu disclosed.
Yusuf, the elder brother of the deceased, reported the matter to the Sango Divisional Police Headquarters upon receiving the news of his sister’s demise.
“The Sango Ota Police Division arrested a murder suspect on August 6, 2023, around 4 pm. It was one Segun Osho who reported that his sister, Rafiat Okewole, had an argument with her husband, Oluwole Okewole, and he hit her head against the wall, rendering her unconscious,” confirmed the Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola. She further stated that Wole is currently in police custody.
The PPRO provided additional details, saying, “Detectives visited the scene, arrested the suspect for interrogation, and took photographs while the corpse was evacuated to the mortuary for autopsy.”
The tragic loss of Rafiat Okewole has left her family devastated, and the community shaken by the horrific act of violence. Authorities are now focused on conducting a thorough investigation to ensure that justice is served.
