The Federal Government has announced the allocation of N825.819 billion as compensation for the indigenes of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. This compensation aims to facilitate the construction of a 4.2km second runway at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

The allocated amount of N825.8 billion is intended as an incentive for residents to vacate the community and cooperate towards the successful completion of the 4.2km second runway project, which was initially awarded in 2022.

Additionally, as part of the compensation package, the FCT Minister announced plans to construct a 5km bridge in the Tunga Madaki community. Furthermore, a modern healthcare facility will be provided to serve as a temporary resettlement site for the indigenes.

Emphasizing the urgency of the project, the FCT Minister urged the contractors to resume work promptly. He also assured that the approved funds would be released starting from tomorrow (Wednesday).

Earlier, Jiwa community had initiated negotiations with the Federal Government, requesting compensation of N2.5 million per hectare.

This compensation package signifies the government’s commitment to ensuring fair and just compensation for the affected indigenes of Abuja. It also highlights the determination to expedite the construction of the much-needed second runway, which will enhance the efficiency and capacity of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
