British council raises IELTS exam fees for Nigerians to N107,500

Effective September 2023, Nigerian citizens planning to write the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) examinations will face an increased fee of N107,500, as announced by the British Council.

Currently, Nigerians pay approximately N80,000 to N90,000 for the IELTS exam, which is often required for those seeking opportunities to work or study in the United Kingdom.

This announcement comes amidst the economic challenges faced by Nigeria.

When discussing the rationale behind the fee hike, the Council cited the necessity to uphold the high quality standards for a superior “testing experience.”

A statement from the British Council explained, “Dear valued Test Taker, We would like to inform you that effective from 1 September 2023, there will be a price increase for IELTS tests offered by the British Council. The new prices will be NGN 107,500 for IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training, NGN 116,000 for UK Visas and Immigration, and NGN 104,000 for Life Skills.
The new prices are necessary to sustain the high quality of standards for your testing experience.”

The Council expressed gratitude to those who choose the British Council for their testing needs, concluding the message with, “Thank you for choosing the British Council.”
