Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sadness over the death of several soldiers killed in an ambush by bandits and the tragic helicopter crash in Niger State.
In a statement by his media aide, Garba Shehu, on Saturday, Buhari was displeased with the series of unfortunate events in the state, News Point Nigeria reports.
He said, “I am saddened by the helicopter accident, following the tragic ambush in which we have lost our brave army personnel.
“My thoughts are with the bereaved families. I hope those injured recover at the earliest,” Buhari said.
The former president also expressed his “heartfelt condolences” to President Bola Tinubu, the Armed Forces of the Federation and the families of the deceased.
“With the soldier-discipline in our troops, it is a matter of time before they overcome,” he added.

Nigerian Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Thursday confirmed the death of 36 officers in an ambush in Niger State and a rescue helicopter that tragically crashed last Monday.
Insurgents had ambushed troops in the Zungeru area of the state and some gallant troops of the Nigerian Army paid the supreme price.
A Nigerian Air Force MI-171 Helicopter on a casualty evacuation mission crashed on Monday in the Shiroro Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, said an investigation is still underway to determine the cause, and advised citizens to be wary of propaganda by terrorists and remain patriotic.
