Cabinet Change: Shetty out, classmate Mahmoud in
Maryam Shettima, popularly known as Maryam Shetty, was initially nominated as a minister by President Bola Tinubu. However, her nomination received widespread criticism and was subsequently revoked on Friday.
While Maryam Shetty was on her way to the National Assembly for screening on Friday, news emerged that her nomination had been withdrawn.
She was later replaced by her classmate, Mariya Mahmoud, who had also attended Kano Foundation Secondary School with her from JSS 1 to JSS 3 and later studied at Bayero University, Kano.

During their time at the university, Maryam Shetty pursued Physiotherapy, while Mariya Mahmoud focused on Medicine and Surgery within the faculty of Medical Sciences.
Mariya Mahmoud had previously served as a commissioner close to the first family during Ganduje’s tenure.
She was known to be a friend of Amina Ganduje, one of the influential daughters of the current National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
Amina Ganduje, who is also a Medical Doctor, graduated from the University of Maiduguri and worked with Mahmoud at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH).
There were speculations that Amina had a hand in nominating some commissioners for her father’s cabinet, with Mariya Mahmoud being one of the rumoured choices.
