Grandfather nabbed for selling grandchild for N700,000

Police in Oyo State have apprehended a grandfather for allegedly seizing his daughter’s day-old baby in Oyo town and selling the same to a baby factory in Abia for N700,000.

According to the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Adebola Hamzat, the grandfather took the baby girl from her teenage mother, Sarah Chukwuka, on July 10.

The suspect, who claimed to be the biological father of the teenage mother, confessed to the crime.

He explained how he deceived the mother by pretending to hand the baby over to a caregiver.

The suspect further admitted that he transported the baby to Abia, where he sold her to the owner of the baby factory in Obehi, Okwa West Local Government Area, for N700,000.

“A raid on the baby factory led to the arrest of a female suspect identified as Bunmi and four other accomplices,” Mr. Hamzat said.

He added that a bundle of newly issued birth certificates and various equipment used in labour rooms were also recovered from the factory.

Moreover, Commissioner Hamzat mentioned that the five additional suspects were unable to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the parentage of the babies found within the facility.

In addition to this case, Mr. Hamzat paraded six other suspects who had been apprehended for robbery, kidnapping, cultism, and car theft.

These suspects had allegedly robbed a victim of expensive mobile phones, laptops, jewelry, and other valuable items worth millions of Naira in Ibadan.

Armed with machetes, jack knives, and other dangerous weapons, they also confessed to being involved in several previous criminal activities across various locations in the Oyo State capital.
